Top
officers eagerly share the latest scoop on their business
strategies at company meetings or conferences. Unfortunately,
those meetings usually do not involve all critical
employees and with busy schedules occur all too infrequently.
Yet those messages may be of vital importance to a
much wider audience within the company. And theres
nothing more powerful than seeing and hearing about
corporate strategy directly from those who are making
it!
Sun
Microsystems is taking advantage of WMS
speedy turnaround with Suns four-day intensive
"Boot Camps" held several times a year.
Sun executives at these conferences give "need-to-know"
presentations on the latest marketing, strategy, and
corporate direction. This information is so fresh
and valuable that Sun wanted a method to capture these
key executives on the fly at each Boot Camp and then
repackage them for other uses.
Thats
where WMS comes in. Of course its easy enough
to videotape the presentations. But to put in the
hands of participants a CD of the Boot Camp at its
close? And not just raw footage, but edited to bring
out the highlights and make the best use of viewers
limited time.
These
CDs have proved their cost-effectiveness in
many ways. Theyve been shown at other Boot Camps
around the country. Besides widening the audience,
this action also reduces travel costs and wear-and-tear
on the presenters themselves. The content on just
one presentation was considered so critical that it
was immediately put on Suns Intranet. In addition,
Jim Hardie, Sun University program manager, has built
lesson plans tailored to the edited presentations.
